Product Description:

British Pine Tar Soap: Enjoy the distinctive woody, smoky fragrance of our special British pine tar soap. Made with British sourced ingredients, with 100% hemp oil soap base, this soap is suited for use on both the body and face.

Ingredients

Cannabis sativa seed oil, sodium hydroxide, aqua, pinus palastris tar, maris sal, pinus sylvestris leaf oil, sucrose.
Or hemp seed oil, sodium lye, water, pine tar, sea salt, pine leaf essential oil, sugar.

About our pine tar soap formulation

  • Our aim was to produce a bar of soap which had a wonderful natural aroma that both men and women could enjoy without relying on exotic scents from far away lands.
  • We wanted a bar of soap that never dried the skin out where ever it was used on the body and that people with sensitive or trouble-prone skin could use.
  • We wanted a bar of soap that was tactile during use.

Our British pine tar soap has all of these special characteristics

  • First, it is made entirely from a single liquid oil, hemp seed oil. The composition of the fatty acids of hemp oil, high in omega 6 and omega 3 (in the ideal ratio) and omega 9 helps to keep the moisture in the skin. Other fatty acids present in hemp seed oil such as gamma-linoleic acid are anti-inflammatory and help soothe the skin. Although the ingredients are expensive, it produces a bar of soap which is soft and easy to use and always kind to the skin.
  • Secondly, the emphasis on pine tar. Pine tar has a long history of use going back some 2000 years. It is well know for it anti-inflammatory effects, as well as being antibacterial and anti-fungal. Over the years it has been used in preparation for eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis and other cases of dry, red itchy skin. We love the natural aroma of the forest - woody, smoky, earthy, clean and resinous.
  • Thirdly, we wanted a soap that was tactile, so we make it in an oval mould. The oval bar of pine tar soap rolls in the hand with a totally different sensation compared to square and rectangular bars of soap.

Using pine tar soap

This soap is designed for use anywhere on the body and face. As usual, avoid getting the soap in the eyes. This soap is not suitable for washing the hair. We always recommend rhassoul clay for washing the hair or soapnut liquid if you have oily hair.

Because the bar of soap is so soft, we recommend keeping it on a high quality soap dish such as our two piece enamel soap dish which has large drainage holes and dimples to allow the bar of soap to dry somewhat between uses.

Product development

Most artisanal soaps are made a with a blend of hard fats - hard oils, solid at room temperature, and oils. Typical examples are shea butter, cacao butter, palm oil, mango butter, beef tallow or lard and liquid oils such as olive pomace extracted with solvents, almond oil etc. Most of these fats and oils are produced abroad and when we did try them in our test bars, they produced a soap that was somewhat drying on the skin. Given our long experience using hemp oil in our hemp oil soft soap, we knew from experience that a soap containing 100% hemp seed oil would be the best for the skin.
