How is rose water made?

Our rose water is made by an award winning Moroccan women owned cooperative. From cultivation to final production, the emphasis at the coop is always on purity and consistency of quality year on year. The height of the rose season runs through April to May, when the rose bushes reach their peak and the whole valley turns pink as if it is a magical realm.  During this time, when the petals are fully opened and the atmosphere is warm and moist, the roses, at the peak of their vibrancy, contain their most intense aroma. From dawn until mid-morning, the ladies gather these sun ripened roses.

Next, the fresh petals are carefully sorted and they are placed in vats for distillation on the farm where they grow. The distillation begins within hours of the harvest. Once heated, the steam is collected, giving us the premium organic rose water, also containing the natural rose oils. Much of the rose essential oil is retained in the rose water, adding to the intense damask rose aroma, the potency and the longevity - without the addition or any preservatives. The cooperative produces food grade pure organic rose water, which we sell for cosmetic use.

This rose water is distilled from the damask rose specially chosen for it high levels of rose oil and to give the classic, timeless scent. With the reputed aphrodisiac qualities of rose water and gentle astringent action, means that it will always be more than a natural toner, cleanser and skin conditioner!

Rose water characteristics

Our rose water has a classic damask rose fragrance which is, rosy, sweet and heady – with a light musk element contributed by the stamens of each flower. Together it gives a balanced rose water which is distinctive, intoxicating, sensual, relaxing and restorative - evocative to almost every person.

By tradition, the scent of the rose enhances memory and current research shows how it is relevant to patients with Alzheimer’s disease.

Rose water contains over 400 different compounds, making it impossible to replicate. These include, Vitamin C, terpenes, glycosides, flavonoids, quarcetin, kaempferol and anthocyanins.
