Product Description:

One little clay pot, a beautifully personal touch of colour. Our Moroccan Aker el Fassi lip tint and cheek blush combines dried red poppy petals and pomegranate peel in a handmade terracotta pot. Activate the botanical pigment with a little moisture, then build from a delicate wash of colour to a more expressive lip and cheek tint.

This is not a waxy lipstick or a ready-mixed liquid blush. It is a traditional, water-activated tint that lets you adjust both the intensity and the tone. A light touch brings warmth to an everyday look; another layer adds definition for an evening out.

Choose your colour: terracotta or a richer red

The liquid you use to moisten Aker el Fassi influences the colour you create. Our colour tip is to start with a tiny amount and try the finish before building it up.

  • For warm terracotta tones: activate the pigment with plain water, a more neutral wetting agent.
  • For redder tones: try a suitable rose water or neroli water. These floral waters can bring out a redder result than plain water.
  • For more intensity: apply thin layers rather than picking up a large amount of pigment at once.

More acidic liquids, such as lemon juice, can also shift the tint towards a deeper red. However, lemon juice is not our recommended everyday lip or facial activator because it can irritate skin. For application, choose water or a floral water suitable for the intended area, and follow its directions.

The final shade varies with the liquid used, the amount of pigment and your natural lip or skin colour. Floral waters also vary in acidity, so the result is not an exact colour guarantee.

How to use Aker el Fassi on lips

  1. Moisten: lightly dampen a clean lip brush or fingertip with your chosen suitable liquid. You only need a little moisture.
  2. Pick up the colour: gently rub the damp applicator across the pigmented surface of the terracotta pot.
  3. Apply: sweep a small amount onto your lips for a soft tint.
  4. Build: let the first layer settle, then add another thin layer if you would like a stronger colour.
  5. Finish: wear the tint alone or apply your usual lip balm over it for a softer, glossier finish.

How to use it as a cheek blush

Lift a small amount of colour with a clean, lightly damp fingertip or makeup brush. Dab sparingly onto your cheeks and blend promptly. Begin with less than you think you need: it is easier to add another touch than to soften a heavy application.

For a harmonious look, use the same pot on your lips and cheeks, adjusting the amount of pigment for each area.

Why choose this Moroccan lip and cheek tint?

  • Two uses in one pot: colour for both lips and cheeks.
  • Botanical ingredients: dried red poppy petals and pomegranate peel.
  • Adjustable colour: explore warm terracotta and redder tones through your choice of suitable activator.
  • Buildable application: start sheer and layer to your preferred intensity.
  • Traditional presentation: a handmade terracotta pot rather than a conventional lipstick tube.

Ingredients and pot

Pigment ingredients: dried red poppy petals (Papaver rhoeas) and pomegranate peel (Punica granatum).

Aker el Fassi FAQs

What is Aker el Fassi?

Aker el Fassi is a traditional Moroccan botanical cosmetic used to colour lips and cheeks. This version is presented in a terracotta pot and activated with moisture before application.

How do I make Aker el Fassi look redder?

Try a suitable rose water or neroli water instead of plain water. The choice of wetting liquid can shift the colour towards redder tones. Test a small amount first, as floral waters and individual results vary.

How do I get a terracotta lip tint?

Use plain water to activate the pigment and apply a light layer. Water gives a warmer, more terracotta result than the more acidic activators described above.

Can I use lemon juice to activate it?

Lemon juice can produce a deeper red colour, but we recommend water or a suitable floral water for lips and cheeks instead, as lemon juice can irritate skin.

Is it suitable for sensitive skin?

Plant-based ingredients are not automatically suitable for every skin type. Patch test the tint with your chosen activator before use. Do not apply to broken or irritated skin, avoid the eye area and stop using it if irritation occurs.

How long does the colour last?

Wear varies with application, eating, drinking and your skin. Apply lightly, build to your preferred intensity and touch up when needed rather than expecting a fixed number of hours.

How should I care for the pot?

Use clean applicators and only the moisture needed to lift the pigment. Allow the surface to dry after use and store in a clean, dry place. Follow any storage and shelf-life information supplied with your product.

This is brilliant! I haven't seen anything like this before! It's replaced my natural based lipstick and blush. But this is the cleanest most natural makeup I have ever seen and I spray a brush with alittle floral water and pick up some product and mix with a little rose argan lip balm and pat it on lips and cheeks.....brilliant and no plastic!!! Just need you to bring us an eye liner and bronzer and I'll be sorted. Thank you so much.
