How to care for your handmade wooden spoon
- Rinse the spoon before the first use.
- Oil the spoon before use if desired. Use any edible oil.
- Oil the spoon periodically using an edible plant oil to reduce water penetration.
- Wash the spoon by hand straight after use with warm water and mild plant based detergent (such as soapnuts) and dry the spoon afterwards. Please don't leave it to soak!
- If water does penetrate the wood and causes the grain to lift, allow the spoon to dry out completely, sand with fine sandpaper until smooth and re-oil. Allow time for the oil to soak into the wood before using the spoon again.
- The spoons can be used in food preparation and eating, far preferable to plastic.
- Young children and babies should always be strictly supervised when using a wooden spoon. A spoon is not a toy! When not in use keep away from children and pets.
Ethics of Using Wooden Spoons
- Supporting traditional wood skills, originating in the Ice Age.
- Reduces reliance on the extraction of metals from the earth.
- The spoons are made in a small workshop in India run by a master carver.
