Hemp Oil

Cleaning takes on a different dimension when you use natural plant based soaps. I will fully admit to enjoying cleaning now – I do 99% of my household cleaning with Hemp Oil Soap or Soapnuts.

We are especially proud our Hemp Oil Soap, which is inspired by the earliest soap made in Britain – made between the 12th and the 19th Century. The ingredients are 100% British grown and pressed hemp seed oil, 100% British lye-water. It is the British version of Savon Noir. The soap is completely free of additives and free from plastic contamination.

This soaps is gentle on the skin, unbelievably tough on grime and devastating to microbes. Use these soaps for any dreaded cleaning tasks for washable surfaces without rubber gloves.

Traditional soap has always been recognized for its universal properties. There was not a certain soap for shaving, for cleaning or for washing – one soap did everything! I have over 1200 documented uses! Fascinated by this soft soap or black soap as it is known in historical texts, at Natural Spa Supplies we have set out to recreate the 12th century hemp oil soap recipe – it took 18 months of experimentation. I will admit that we do not cook the hemp oil soap over an open fire and I still don’t know why these soft plant oil based soaps are often called black soap!

Cleaning with Hemp Oil Soap

Try Hemp Oil Soap for a rubber-glove-free cleaning experience.  It is liberating!

This traditional soaps are left in their original fully concentrated form and you you soon realize just how little you need, sometimes just a tiny dab of soap will do the job. As an example, I cleaned every surface in my kitchen (except the ceiling!) with about 20g of hemp oil soap.

The General Principles of using Real Soap

There are two types of traditional soap:

Water based soaps made by soaking or simmering soapy plants such as soapnuts, soapwort etc. The liquid produced can be used neat of diluted. Use for shiny thing, glass, dishes and for clothes washing but be prepared for many surprises!

The second type of soap is the oil based soap made by saponifying oil and lye – getting these two ingredients to transform into soap and glycerine. This can take a lot of coaxing and the recitation of encouraging words. Although there are a lot of crossovers as to which soap is best for which task, sometimes only one of these soaps is fit for the task on hand. Hence all the information pages. It will soon all become filed in the common sense region of your brain. The plant oil based soaps are best for the really grimy tasks.

Soap can be used neat or diluted in hot water depending on the size area to be cleaned or the absolute griminess level.

Soap is more active in hot water.

Soap takes time to do its work. Half the time rubbing and scrubbing by allowing the soap time to do its work.

Most surfaces require rinsing.

… Now for some tasks!

Cleaning in the Kitchen with Hemp Oil Soap

We spend most of our cleaning time, cleaning things in the kitchen. Don’t feel sorry for us, we listen to the radio at the same time. Find out how to eco clean everything in your kitchen with hemp oil soap: Walls, skirting boards, floors, the refrigerator, freezer, the sink, cupboards inside and outside, slightly burnt pans and saucepans, badly burn saucepans, the extractor fan, cloths used for cleaning, the oven and grill pans, tiles and mildew.
With this extreme cleaning, you also need an extreme scrubbing pad. Our Scrubbies fit just that description! In a range of colours and designs, these Scrubbies make washing up twice as fast, are easy to keep clean, they are machine washable. With a surface as hard as gypsum, they deaal with all of the above in the most satisfying way!

Clothes and textiles

How to remove dark stains from collars and cuffs – wet the stained area, for delicate fabrics, rub in a knob of soft soap by hand, or for durable textiles, scrub the soap in with a brush. Ignore for an hour or so, then rub or scrub and rinse. Repeat of needed. Then place in the washing machine and wash as normal with soapnuts. Try the same technique also on other stains on clothes. I have rescued five woollen jumpers and several linen skirts! These powerful oil based soaps are the perfect compliment to soapnuts.

How to Clean Everything in Your Lounge

Having visitors is a great incentive to cleaning the lounge. Get your cleaning supplies to the ready and invite some friends over. You’ll be surprized how easily you can clean rugs, carpets, sofas, the fire place and heath

How to Clean with Hemp oil Soap in you Bathroom

Clean the sink, taps, shower screen, bath, bidet, shower tray, tiles, the floor, just about anything in your bathroom. If you are a good tea maker or a worthy home brewer, your guests will probably want to use the bathroom at some point. So you’ll need to clean this too.

Cleaning Up After Pets Made Easy with Traditional Soap

Pets like to keep us agile and fit by shedding hair, furballing, spilling food out of their bowls, causing tidal waves in their water bowls and missing the litter tray. It is all for our benefit! Whatever you need to clean up, you can always wash your hand’s afterwards!

For dried surprizes: furballs and doo-doos behind the sofa, dissolve the offending matter with a Hemp Oil Soap and vinegar mixture.

Use the naturally antibacterial Hemp Oil Soap and don’t forget to scrub the nails at the same time.

Cleaning a wooden animal cage (guinea pigs, rabbits, chickens, quail etc)

First remove the animal! Put it somewhere sheltered and safe. Remove all the soiled bedding. Make a solution with 1-2 soup spoons of olive or hemp oil soap dissolved in a bucket hot water. Use a scrubbing brush, cloth or sponge to wash the entire cage. Repeat if necessary. Make sure the cage is dry and odour free before adding fresh bedding, food, water and of course the animal occupant. If you didn’t know this already, fleas, mites and other annoying insects hate black soap. If your animal is infested with fleas or mites, clean their cage thoroughly and book them in for a bath in real soap – just don’t get it in their eyes.

More to come!

WARNING

Do not get soap in the eyes. If you do get soap in your eyes flush with plenty of running water.
I did allow some soap to run into my eyes and it really did hurt and irritate my eyes. I will not be repeating this experiment!

Keep away from pets and children.

Do not ingest – accidental ingestion is unlikely as soap does not taste pleasant. If soap is ingested seek medical attention. Take the jar with you.

Test an inconspicuous area of the surface to be cleaned before use.

Storage of Hemp Oil Soap

The soap is provided in a glass jar. Like most natural products, it will keep better if it is kept out of the light between uses and at a stable room temperature. The soap has a shelf life of 12 months and should be used within three months of opening.

My 40+ yr old ficus plant had a ‘sticky leaf’ problem…it sometimes happens at this time of year; so I made a solution of water with a couple of sprays of my Hemp washing up liquid (+ a little Neem oil) & it was cured!
The next plant spray I made up with just a squirt of the Hemp soap because I loved how it was making the leaves shiny and stronger…just look at them glow!
Visitors are also remarking on how healthy and vibrant my plants look!
    Hooray for Hemp!!!

  2. Rachel

I’ve been using Hemp Oil Soap and Scrubbies for a few years now and would not be without them. As you and your other loyal customers know, they really are THE best way to clean the oven. I’ve always reacted badly to most commercial cleaning products, including so called “green” ones so I’m very grateful that Hemp Oil Soap was recommended to me.

I want to tell you is that the Hemp soap is THE best miraculous product for washing oil based paint brushes instead of using white spirit .. it emulsified the paint with the water and it comes off easily. I do tend to buy water based paints now but still have moments of finding hard dead brushes soaked in white spirit and forgotten. So now I’ve found you that will no longer be the case. Great eh!

  5. Sally Mittuch

Hi Diana, thank you so much for your feedback. I wonder if you could have cleaned the pan in much less time using the hemp soap methods – I seem to have lots of practise with burnt pans. I can normally put them to right in less than five minutes!

  6. Diana

This morning I have just had an amazing experience with it on a scrambled egg pan, not non stick. Had been left 24 hours with cold water in which only keeps it moist, doesn’t help clean it. I tried your technique of boiling some hemp oil up in the pan in water, and let it simmer with the lid on for 20 minutes giving it the odd stir with a wooden spoon. The results were nothing short of amazing! The very small residue, and it was small, just lifted off with the minimum of effort. Prior to this I had always used bicarb and a Scrubbie which worked but involved a lot more effort!……I really cant believe it it was that easy, and scrambled egg pans are notoriously not easy to clean normally. Thank you for this soap! Its so worth it!

Astonishing product. Sally, you’re a marvel for making this wonderful soap. Thank you. This and soapnuts are the only soaps I’m going to use from now on for everything. My hands are so wrecked after so much extra washing over the last year, but hemp soap is so gentle on my hands despite all the washing up and cleaning I’ve been doing it would be daft to use anything else. Have ordered a bigger jar!

This is such an amazing and versatile soap which can be used on hands, body, face, for shaving, housework, on clothes etc. I am finding many ways to use it and is a match made in heaven with the scrubbing pad. A little goes a long way so is cost effective and being completely natural is so refreshing. Never found anything as good as this before 🙂

I have used this soap for washing my face for over a year now, and my skin is so much clearer, My husband uses it for shaving, and has found it has dramatically reduced his razor burn. But, this weekend my order of soap nuts and the “scrubby” arrived; I put the hemp oil soap through its paces! I managed to clean my oven (a task I hate, and put off as long as possible!) using the scrubby, hemp oil soap, and some soapnut solution, in minutes! No nasty fumes or chemicals, and all done without the need for rubber gloves. Very impressed!

This is the most amazing product; super versatile. I use it to clean myself and the entire bathroom. Magic!

I have been using this as a shaving soap for a year now and it is the best soap I have ever used, far better than any gel or foam. You use just a little bit and it lathers up slightly. It gives a very clean shave, does not irritate my skin, and leaves it soft and clean. Brilliant stuff.

    Fabulous Natural Product 10/10
Having had some issues with normal soaps and facial scrubs I thought I would give this a try. My main issue was developing small nicks and cuts while shaving with a razor and those lead into tiny spots. I used a very small amount of the Hemp Oil Soap in my hands added to small amount of warm water and washed my face after a wet shave. My skin has never been better and completely blemish free. Highly recommended product and will order the larger size jar next time.

  13. Katy

This stuff is amazing! I cannot use bar soap as however pure, it always leaves my skin dry. This hemp soap moisturises and gently exfoliates. The first time I used it, it felt like my skin could breathe properly as many commercial products leave a residue of chemicals, which irritate delicate skin. I have it by the sink for washing hands and take one to the gym to use in the shower. I use it with a small sea sponge to wash my face and it has made my skin much clearer. It has a natural earthy smell and a great consistency, which makes it very easy to use and store. I love this product and am grateful to Sally for taking the time to research the ancient art of making it as it is a forgotten skill.

  14. Ros

I have only just started experimenting with the range of tasks this amazing soap can tackle! What I am 100% sure about is its use for exfoliation. Having believed I had exfoliated before with other products, I was actually momentarily alarmed when the dead skin started to roll off with the use of hemp oil soap and the exfoliating glove in the kit! Absolutely amazing and a wonderful feeling. Equally, not only are its deep cleansing and exfoliating properties so good, it does not strip the live skin of natural oils. I have always suffered with somewhat dry skin. Now, I exfoliate once a week to maintain smooth, hydrated skin with no need to use any additional moisturisers!

  15. Louise

The hemp oil soap is truly a fantastic product. I use it both for my skin and for cleaning fabrics, both of which jobs it does wonderfully. I am particularly impressed with how gently, yet thoroughly, it cleans my hands. I have had so many problems with soaps over the years – nearly everything leaves my hands red, itchy, dry and sore (even bleeding on occasions!), even natural Castile soap has caused me difficulties. However, the hemp oil soap never, ever seems to dry the skin of my hands. I am so impressed and will continue to use it as long as you keep making it!

  16. Sally

Thank you very much – I didn’t know about the ability of hemp oil soap to remove tea stains! I really should do a series of experiments and write it up!

  17. Mags

I bought the hemp soap after hearing of its stain removal properties,

I admit I was sceptical about all that I had read but……it was all true!

I had some nasty grease stains on a tee shirt (cooking oil) and some tea stains on a dress. Tea is almost impossible to shift.

I dabbed some hemp oil soap on the grease stains and washed as normal using soap nuts. I was delighted to see that the stains had gone!

I had some tea stains on a dress and thought I’d give the dress the hemp soap treatment. I dabbed the stains with the hemp soap and washed as normal with the soap nuts. Whilst the stain had not gone completely, it had faded, so I repeated the treatment. After washing and close examination, the stain had gone completely! I was amazed!

Thank you for introducing me to this marvel of laundry and clothes care! I recommend its powers to all my friends who complain about the stains not coming out of their clothes!
