All kinds of animals instinctively use clay and probably all through the chain of human evolution, we continued as expert clay users. Healers have been using clay to treat animals for thousands of years as clay cures are recorded in some of the earliest Mesopotamian writings going back to 3500 B.C.
In the second century A.D. Galen was recorded the use of clay by sick and injured animals before he wrote a book on clay.
